The video explains best practices for preparing CAD drawings before importing them into NestFab, focusing on organizing part files to fit the Cut, Attatch, and Ignore structure of NestFab's importer.
The video discusses the most common issue we see with our customer's part creation.
If all geometry is placed on a single layer with overlapping lines, NestFab cannot identify what lines define the part boundaries.
This issue needs to be corrected in CAD software. We must separate the part boundaries, to use the Cut assignment. The internal details to use the Attach assignment, and any irrelevant geometry can be assigned to Ignore.
The two methods NestFab recognises for separating lines are the use of colours and layers. A combination of these can be used to acheieve the desired result of accurately importing your parts.
By following these best practices, you ensure that your parts are imported into NestFab cleanly and accurately, minimizing errors during the nesting process. Organizing your drawings with clear Cut, Attach, and Ignore assignments; whether through layers, colours, or both—creates a smooth workflow from CAD to fabrication and helps you get the most out of NestFab’s fantastic nesting engine.
